Our Rabbis

 

Rabbi Gershom Baraza was born in Barcelona, Spain and has lived in several countries across Europe, Africa and the Far East.  He is currently based in Melbourne, Australia, where he lives with his wife and 4 children. 

• Rabbinical Qualifications 

Rabbi Baraza obtained his Yoreh Yoreh semicha under Machon LeHora’ah where he is studying Choshen Mishpat within his dayanus learning at the moment.

Furthermore, Rabbi Baraza has achieved advanced rabbinical ordination in Mikva'os, and he is currently studying Yodin Yodin semicha as well as to become a Posek in Hilchos Niddoh at Machon Limmud Halacha under the auspices of the Crown Heights Beis Din. 

Finally, Rabbi Baraza is also currently undergoing extensive shimush at Machon Shkufim Atumim under the auspices of the East Flatbush Beis Din. 

 

 

• Professional Qualifications 

Rabbi Baraza graduated summa cum laude in BSc in Psychology from Upper Iowa University and graduated with honors in MSc in Marketing from Hong Kong University. He also holds several postgraduate diplomas in the professional fields such as Digital Marketing and Risk Management.

• Experience

Rabbi Baraza has extensive working experience in professional private enterprises such as wholesale food industry, e-commerce, tax law, antiques, and luxury markets.

Likewise, he has extensive rabbinical hands-on experience in many areas of halacha. Besides his years of experience in kosher supervision in Hong Kong, he has been working with the major kosher certification agencies such as the OU, the OK, CRC among others since 2022.

 

 

Furthermore, Rabbi Baraza also resurrected and researched the idea of establishing an Eruv in Hong Kong Island which finally led to its establishment in 2023.

In 2025, shortly after moving into Melbourne, he was appointed as Rov of the Brighton Hebrew Congregation, and he became a member of the Rabbinical Council of Victoria and the Rabbinical Association of Australasia.
